Advanced Programs

BRIEF Advanced Programs

In addition to the Boyce-Astro (BRIEF) Seminar offerings, the Advanced Program Groups provide follow on opportunities for seminar students, amateur astronomers, science educators, and professional observers to work together in ongoing research and publication.

EXOPLORER Program

Boyce-Astro (BRIEF) is committed to an exoplanet science program that will encompass both confirmation and discovery. This is an evolving area of astronomy and BRIEF will endeavor to follow the opportunities that arise for research and student enrichment.

ASTROMETRY Program

The Advanced Astrometry program is for those who have published papers at JDSO, BRIEF, or SAS and wish to continue with team studies of double stars. This BRIEF research program is designed to provide support for those interested in ongoing research and publication efforts. BRIEF will pair members in teams, provide access to remote robotic observatories, provide coaching, and peer review for team papers prior to submission.

Photometry Program

The Advanced Photometry program is offered to those who have published papers at JDSO, BRIEF, or SAS and wish to continue research as part of team. This BRIEF research program is designed to provide support for those interested in ongoing research and publication efforts. BRIEF will pair members in teams, provide access to remote robotic observatories, provide coaching, and peer review for team papers prior to submission.

Starts Winter 2019

Asteroid Program

The Asteroid research program is offered to those who have an interest in planetary defense and are interested in performing astrometry submissions to the Minor Planet Center. This active observation program teaches amateur observers how to perform Asteroid Astrometry. Photometric light curve observation work will also be performed by those interested in characterizing the shape and rotation of asteroids. An emphasis on data collection of NEO and PHA targets is a core function of this program.
